I remember the day clearly. One of my fighters called me and said "I found my new Muay Thai coach" he was super happy.
Later that day I drove down to Newport Beach to Triunfo MMA. A few things immediately came to mind. One was how beautiful the weather was. Two was damn there is no parking here. Third was holy shit this place is right next to AOJ.
After getting dropped off out front I went inside and saw Tyler working the pads. Almost immediately I thought to myself damn this kid is good. Skill, energy and knowledge all on point. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of a great partnership.
I am not sure how many fights we've worked together, I know it's been a ton. We've traveled to Brazil, all over the United States and we've worked the corner together in some of the worst events on Indian reservations with fist fights in the parking lot to the biggest stages in MMA.
There was a time when we had two fights on one night. I was with one fighter and Tyler was with the other. We had a conversation about game plan and who would handle coaching when it hit the ground. I remember telling Tyler relax you know exactly what I would say. It's true, after working with someone so much you know a lot of what they do.
It became clear to me that I need to hire Tyler to coach my fighters. Bring in the merger of Classic Fight Team and 10th Planet Costa Mesa. Almost immediately our team started to take shape and we started to dominate. We were having so much success that Tyler and Classic fight team needed their own spot. Lucky for our team it's just 16 doors down from 10th Planet Costa Mesa.
Tyler has done a great job building Classic Fight Team, we are about six month into the new building and we are already out growing the space. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this movement. If you are looking to learn Muay Thai I strongly encourage you to check out Tyler Wombles and Classic Fight Team.
